Magazine Terminology

During my lesson I learnt the correct Terminology when analyzing a front cover a magazine. I have posted a page from my presentation on the *Hip Hop Weekly* with annotation featured on it, so that I can see where the conventions are placed as well as using the correct terminology. What I need to do now is futher my understanding in other terminology words like puff, in order to extend my knowledge in using the correct language.

Will continue to further my knowledge in Terminology

Magazine Presentation

In my powerpoint I have done research on a magazine called *Hip Hop Weekly*, discussing the founders, content, Influence and the audiece that it appeals too. I have also focused on the key conventions it has as well a what makes it a successfull magazine, which lead to a conclusion of whatmakes it a good magazine. Th front cover makes it appealing as well as the price, advertising, Representation and most important, the price. During this project I will look to produce a magazine sharing the same theme as the *Hip Hop Weekly*, however focuse on the undergroung artists, since they don't get most recognition for there excellent work.

In addition I will continue to stud on Music Magazines as well as developing my very own

Class and Teacher Feedback

During my lesson I showed my current work to the class and got feedback on the good points and bad points of the Front Cover. During the process of this conversation I understood that the picture shows a lot about the school as well as its achievements over the years. The font and title of the school was another good point as well including the key conventions I followed. The improvements that I understood was the bottom of the front page, the idea of the heading and the sub-headiong having the same style of font didn't work to well, so for further improvements I need to look at how I can change that and make it more exclusive. In general the front cover was good, however I need to work on the bottom section of the page, making the content information more alive and conventional instead of make it look plain and simple.

In addition I will further work on this over the half term.

Enhancing My Front Cover

As my lesson progressed I continued to focuse on how I can better the presentation of it. What I worked with first was placing the School name and website at the top of the magazine to make sure that i'm following the key conventions, as well as placing the issue of the magazine below the title of the magazine. Another area I focused on was the Subheading that I would put in the bottom right of the front cover, paying special attention to the link it will show with the picture, I chose to name it *Sports Awards 2009*. This heading clearly links with the picture as it both shows achievements and awards.

What i'm going to work on is to get another picture of possibly the senior or junior team in a group.

Front Cover Draft

During my lesson I have been focusing on the main image of my Front Cover and then inserting where the text will go after. What I specifically focused on was the font of the title and made sure that it had the colour red in it, so that it would represent the theme of Hampstead School. In addition, I used a Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 to filter the font and enhance it, so that it will look more professional. I then went unto focusing on the contents of the magazine and looked at *High Profile* which is a high school magazine. By adpating their ideas to mine I was able to generate an idea of where to place my content as well as what colours to use. By doing this I have now made a template of the front cover and will next go onto working on putting the content in an appropriate place. As well as making sure the picture of the front cover is simple but appealing.

In addition I also done a contents page which shows the featured content in the magazine. I also displayed the *Hampstead Memo* Staff to give it an effective and real look.

Questionnare Results

After handing out my Questionnare to various students, I did a analysis on the results I got back. What stood out most was that 80% of the students preferred th magazine to come out *weekly*, in addition to the other 20% chose that *Monthly* would be reasonable release Another aspect I understood from the research was that the majority o the students wanted educational websites to be listed in the magazine, which will be a certain feature during the making of my magazne.
In conclusion I was able to gather up that most students like the idea of a weekly magazine being published which will have the conent of Diary Dates, Sporting Events, must see films as well as educational websites listed .

I have also been working on a draft of what my school magazine will look like. By doing draft I was able to place things like the name of magazine, which will *for now* be called the *Hampstead Memo* and also include the featured content on the front cover to allow students to ead what the magazine contains. Once my draft is finished I will be able to make adjustments to improve my work and then work on the final piece that will bring the Front Cover to its appropriate presentation.

Magazine Layout Plan 1

During my lesson I imported my photos from Photoshop to Microsoft Publisher where I could begin to plan how the layout will look. In addition I focused on what my presentation of the front cover conveys to the audience, so I went to dafont.com where I chose an appropriate font for the magazine. The title of my magazine for now is called the 'Hampstead Memo' and will contain specific information on sports activities that are taking place in the school, as well as having pictures of medals to reinforce the idea of achievements. My future plan for my front cover would be to make it, according to the concept of the magazine.
